Leadville Snowmobiling

There is no better way to get into the backcountry than by snowmobile. Snowmobile excursions travel on groomed and powdery trails, meadows and lots of open terrain. Views from the back of a snowmobile are picture-perfect. Snowmobiling requires no prior experience, special abilities or physical strength. Once you experience its thrill you will keep coming back for more. Snowmobile tours are one of the most popular Colorado winter activities. Tours can range from simple "track" trips to powder-hound off-trail adventures. A snowmobile is a land vehicle propelled by tracks at the rear and skis at the front for steering. Snowmobiles (or "sleds") can be ridden single, or with two passengers. Because of the varied terrain, many adventures are available. Some tours are ideal for the whole family. Others, due to the physicality of controlling the sled in varied conditions, are reserved for the more seasoned snowmobiler. Tours are offered in full- and half-day formats. Most vendors offer food and hot beverages, but check with yours to be sure. Many offer snow suits and helmets, but be sure you are prepared for the elements (with similar attire to what you would wear skiing) in case they do not.
